Google Policy Fellowship at Consumers International USD $7,500 @ Klang Valley

Google Policy Fellowship at Consumers International

Applications invited for Internet policy internship position over ten weeks in August-October 2012

Consumers International (CI) is the global federation of consumer groups that, working together with its members, serves as the only independent and authoritative global voice for consumers.

A short-term full-time summer fellowship is available for an outstanding Malaysian student to join CI's team in Kuala Lumpur working to advance the interests of Consumers in the Digital Age.

Your job will be to select one global or regional policy-making institution or process dealing with Internet policy issues (such as intellectual property, telecommunications standards or cyber-security), from a shortlist derived from already-completed CI research, that is lacking in transparency and/or openness to input from public interest representatives.

You will design an advocacy campaign directed at that institution with the object of redressing those observed deficits. This would be based on desk research and discussions with experts from within and outside CI, and would include a calendar and budget.

You will prepare briefing materials for one or more CI members to execute the campaign, and conduct an online briefing to explain and evangelise the opportunity. Following this one or more of those members would be selected to participate, and you will assist them to execute the campaign.

You may have the opportunity to visit the selected institution and discuss the transparency and/or representational deficits with its high-level representatives.

Eligibility

  • Open to currently enrolled undergraduate or postgraduate university students only.
  • You must have the right to work in Malaysia. No assistance can be given with working visas.
  • Must be available for 10 consecutive weeks between approximately 6 August and 12 October.

Criteria

  • A demonstrated interest in promoting online rights and freedoms.
  • An excellent academic record in any social science discipline -- law, sociology, political science or international relations preferred.
  • Proficiency in English language research and writing.
To discuss your interest in this position please email your current résumé, academic transcript, and references (optional) to [email protected] by no later than 6 July 2012.
